The Fork in The Road of Irish Nationalism
Writing, thinking and doing anything movement related is getting tougher.
I have written many articles over the last few years of varying quality. I have written in different styles from research and reporting to opinion pieces and metaphorical diatribes. I have even penned a few poems. I love it and I miss it as I have been unable to create anything new as of late due to a few circumstances. I have realised that not being able to write at the minute isn’t a simple bout of writers block, but rather is a hesitancy to contribute more into something that I am not sure is going in a good direction. The main reason I haven’t been able to write is that I have been scatterbrained since before Christmas as I have struggled to swallow the direction certain figure heads have taken the movement. This white noise in my thought process has also been amplified by changes in the constituency of politics both foreign and domestic. Putting this down into words is necessary for me to move on with any initiative going forward.
I have talked extensively on the wethepeople.ie platform, Twitter and here on Substack about the need to keep our street level activism and also our political parties free from foreign influence. If the label of far right was to be worn by us as a badge of honour, then it was imperative that we were in fact honourable in our actions and in our associations. I have been central to the debate, and resistance to, British nationalism, Zionism and foreign media being anywhere near our demonstrations and circles. It was my advice, given directly to the Derek Blighes, the Philip Dwyers and others of this world, that any involvement of those types in our movement would lead to a total collapse of unity between Irish people North and south and even the collapse of the movement itself. I advised the leadership of our movement against the isolation or provocation of Northern socialists for politics sake as this would be seen as treachery. I also advised that any movement in that direction would be pounced upon by foreign intelligence agencies and political groups and used to interfere with the border poll etc. It is no shock or surprise to me that they did not listen. Blighe for instance is someone who I have supported in the past. His journey into politics began at a rally I organised here in Kilkenny, although I suspect it began far earlier than that. His party, Ireland First was effectively launched at this event and I travelled miles to speak at rallies with Derek thereafter. Around that time I had my finger on the pulse of our activist scene and the type and style of events I organised became templates that were emulated around the country. At all of these events I met many groups and individuals and I told them all the same things. We must try to to get the Republican movement onside or at the very minimum, not become an anti-Republican movement as these nefarious forces would only have loved. In the calendar year of 2024 this all changed as nationalist rallies became partly commandeered by people who were in league with British nationalists like Tommy Robinson and Zionist media magnate, Ezra Levante. People who I once planned and carried out literal missions with such as Beal na Blath 2022, were now cold shouldering me and using impressionable foot-soldiers to lie and target me with abuse. These people did not not know at the time the reason they were being sent after me was because I stood in the way of these foreign influences in our movement. I wasn’t alone either, it is in fact the widely held consensus that we should be a nationalist movement and not a globalised right wing auxiliary. In February of 2024, I was vindicated. Unionist, Jim Ferguson, materialised out of thin air and was offered the Microphone at probably our biggest rally to date in terms of raw energy and momentum. A pre-planned act of sabotage on behalf of the Brits that has since been followed up on with even more political miscegenation.
Who invited Ferguson that day? Who knows. I never got a straight answer from anyone. Herman Kelly has heavy links to British nationalism and Blighe has a long standing infatuation with Tommy Robinson who has sent overtures his way. The other speakers that day were definitely less aware or unaware entirely who this man was. I had to find out from left wing reporting of the rally that this man was a Unionist. My criticism of this man’s presence at the rally created a no man’s land between me and those that were supportive of Ferguson. “He’s a patriot just like us” and other such utterances were sent my way. I took issue with the obvious and dirty tactic of keeping Fergusons involvement quiet as this led to hundreds of nationalists turning up to this event where as they otherwise wouldn’t have if they had to have known. The rallies since that day have not recovered. People felt used and taken for fools. Many people messaged me and asked me what was going on. I had no answers only that I was warning everyone about this for months at that point. They also reached the same conclusion as me that these people who were seen as political leaders of our movement were not for us at all but were using us all to further the aims of the British and Israeli states. It was on that day I knew that certain people who called themselves nationalists were actively trying to drive a political wedge between Republican socialists in the north and nationalists in the south by poisoning us in the eyes of our fellow Irishmen. These people were acting against the unity of our people on this island. It is unfortunate but telling that I have been completely cut off by these people due to my commentary, observations and protests at these actions. A badge of honour.
Although I haven’t always been the most prominent activist in this thing of ours, I can safely say that I have been one of the most copied. I have also been one of the most sought after individuals when it came to advice, planning and organising. As soon as my advice was being ignored the direction of this thing went from traditional nationalism and anti-establishment to something else entirely, I knew what was up. Money. It became a buymeacoffee funded rent a mob. Funding from Britain, Australia and Israel is making its way into the pockets and decision making processes of the Irish far right. It is time for those of us that firmly believe in Irish nationalism to differentiate ourselves from the term far-right. Although its conventional use is as a slur, it means nothing anymore. It is a compliment in many cases but the actual chasm forming between 32 county nationalism and the ACME brand far-right is so significant it needs to be stated. The 26 county “nationalists” are the very definition of West Brit. Home rule by any other name. We are not the same.
As you can see, I have identified a fork in the road that occurred back in February of last year. Since then various groups have emerged out through the lower intestines of the right wing party matrix. They have notions beyond their station and have not cut their teeth with the rest of us when it mattered and when it was hard. They are Johnny come lately’s with a curious taste for “Judeo Christian values”. We assembled a vibrant movement over the last 5 years and it was always going to be targeted by these types but they have been allowed in because they are willing to pay to play. Rather than some type of meritocracy we have a right wing movement that has veered off into commercialised plastic patriotism. They target down and out recovering addicts or people with personality disorders. Easily led and easily fixated with arbitrary nonsense. They create a group identity and a creed out of thin air and these people interrupt and tank every meeting or demo they attend with their crap. All designed to prevent the rise of serious leaders with principles and also to turn sour the connection between these sincere activists with their communities. This fork in the road has become so blatant and obvious to the grass-root support of nationalism that these patriotic minded people are no longer willing to attend any old rally organised for any old reason. I don’t blame them and I am glad that the general public is savvy enough to see what I see. The events in Rosslare the other week were a prime example of this. No local support. Nobody local on the organising committee. Organised from overseas by a Unionist and a Zionist media network. The entire affair parachuted in from the outside and portrayed as anything but. Rosslare was an embarrassment that the people involved will never recover from. Even some seasoned activists from Dublin who attended were unhappy to be associated with Jim Ferguson and probably felt like fools after being led all the way down to the port town just build a Unionists profile here and allow themselves to be tarred with the Butchers Apron.
It is here that I must commend both camps of the National Party. Paddy Quinlan’s NP have earned the respect of many people by standing on principle even when the pressure is there not to. Dyed in the wool Republican values such as 32 county nationalism, neutrality and anti-imperialism are held dear by these young men and the decisions by the rest of the national alliance members to align with loyalist and Zionist right wing groups caused them to rethink their own direction. The NP passed the test of loyalty to their fellow countrymen by refusing to go along with this betrayal. In line with Irelands long standing position of anti-Zionism that finds its roots in the partition of the North, and being brave enough to support Palestinian self determination, the NP weighed in behind the Palestinian ambassadors statement about Ireland and Palestinian claim to their lands. They also parted ways with the national alliance allowing themselves to be defined purely by their own actions and not that of boomer bar stool patriots. This on top of Quinlan’s performances at council level have elevated the opinion of the NP in the minds of those that matter. Wether the NP agree with me or not, it is extremely important for nationalism that traditionally held positions should be endemic in our culture and across political lines. Sovereignty, neutrality and Unity are the base chemical components of the Irish man. No right wing party belongs in this country that does not hold all three of these as sacrosanct. I strongly recommend this great article found on the NP website that outlines some of this stuff.
Justin Barrett must also be mentioned here as he is far more politically aware than most give him credit for. I raised the issue of Zionist flags on Twitter after the Ferguson appearance at the Custom House last year. I asked, who is inviting these demons and how long until we see the Star of David at a rally? Barrett agreed with my line of inquiry and suggested I should ask Malachy Steenson of all people. I dismissed this back then as blind political hatred of Steenson by Barrett but as time has gone on we have seen less and less of Malachy’s leadership and almost none of his condemnation of these West Brit rallies and demos outside one singular “unwise” remark in relation to the Belfast incident. Even if he is not involved, Steenson’s silence when his understudy Cllr. Gavin Pepper flies down the M11 like a swifty to meet and greet Ferguson is another notch on the bedpost in my eyes. Steenson needs to be vocal on the issue of British nationalists and Zionist media. This level of promiscuity with foreigners is unacceptable. It leads unsuspecting people into a trap of being aligned with those who openly lay claim to part of our country. Not Nationalism. Not Republicanism. We have to protect the rank and file nationalists from such embarrassment. We are trusted to organise so that this does not happen but unfortunately the ring leaders of this section of our movement are led by the nose. Barrett has been right on this issue regardless of your opinion of him. Lots of young men listen to the current de facto leader, Quinlan. A traditionally sound nationalist movement still survives there under him and for that reason the issue of party leadership and membership should be resolved rather than be left to limp on out of sadistic vengefulness. Either way I am rooting for these young men to succeed.
My criticisms of figure heads and their minions here are far more sanitised than what they were in their original form. I don’t want to come across as divisive or unnecessarily provocative. I just don’t give a fiddlers any more for these fake treacherous people. I cannot hold my tongue and watch endless AI generated slop being pumped out by people who are receiving money from Australia, Britain and Israel. Rather than having years of well established political fortitude and goodwill accumulate, the plastic half of our movement has decided to fall at the first hurdle, failing to make it out of one election cycle without being captured by British influence and prostituting themselves for Andrew Tate and other ridiculous peoples money. As it stands, all of those people who travel to and attend our rallies and demos are being used. They are being drawn out by the love of their nation and their people and exploited for ulterior motives that are never outlined. People who are financially incentivised to call rallies in service to Zionist media or British claim to the north have no place among us. None. I cannot watch these people influence or steer what has been a meticulously assembled grassroots movement into profit funnels and anti-unity messaging. From here on in I am a nationalist and not some member of a commercialised far-right. Any degenerate lost soul that continues on that path can do so knowing I despise them.
The Migration debate has been fought hard and won. It will take years for it to materialise but we have stopped the rot. This is an abject fact. We have taken an issue out of taboo, into the mainstream, debated it and beaten it. These protests right now should remain locally organised and supported from afar. There should be no roadshows of people with no connection to these areas arriving on putting phones in peoples faces and carrying FOREIGN IMPERIALIST BASTARDS on their shoulders as what happened in Rosslare. Ireland does not need celebrity activists right now. It needs community leaders. Migration is no longer out of bounds and therefore it is now in the hands of the people to act on. Neutrality, sovereignty and Unity are the issues of the day and cooperation with traditional leftists on these matters is essential. Anything other than participation on the side of neutrality is a condemnation of our sons and daughters to the death fields of Eastern Europe. There is a complete narrowing of the divide we saw during covid. After our victory on Free Speech, the left has gone through a transformation. Liberalism is being rejected in favour of the traditionalist Republican values which we are all far more aligned with if we were honest with ourselves. I encourage all readers to reassess their outlook on what it is our movement is. I will remain always nationalist to the core however this period of “far right” underdog mentality is over. We now need to build a new movement for the times we are in. This may involve alliances with old enemies or the acceptance of new younger minds into the leadership of these new fights. Our job right now is to euthanise the foreign tentacles into our camp, building again from the ground up while continuing to participate in the national discussion.
Glad you're back Stephen. I've missed your excellent writing. I agree with much of what you've written here, especially with your assertion that local activism is vital.
Irish Republicanism has long been a supporter of justice in Palestine, and understand that the three "I's"-Ireland, Israel and India were projects of British imperialism where partition, and the fostering of sectarian divisions and conflict served the aims of Empire. The poor loyalists don't realise they are being used, but that's not our problem. The whole left/right trope is another tool of division-the powers that shouldn't be know that the division is them and all of us. Keep writing.
Thank you Stephen for an insightful and clarifying piece. I agree 100% on the pernicious zionist influence. I respect the true nationalists like yourself and Patrick Quinlan. I see the Nation being torn asunder day by day by the sleveen puppeticians, media and their acolytes but I am heartened by the patriots who are rising above the fog of a cognitive war to hoist the standard of a true nationalism worth following. For me there has to be a Christian ethos. The majority of our historical heroes since the time of St Patrick campaigned with the spirit of the Milvian Bridge, "in hoc signo vinces". God has to be higher than country but they can be in harmony.
