Eh ... David?
Irelands Top Christian Goes To Bat For Israel But Keeps A Lid On Christian Ban In Ukraine.
David Quinn is one of Ireland’s leading Catholic voices and is also a prominent and skilled columnist, writing for The Independent and The Irish Times among other publications over the years. I agree with many of Davids positions and he expresses the conservative arguments far better than most of us. Truth be told he is probably one our best guys in the culture war. It is unfortunately the case however that David is human, sometimes showing a side to him that makes you question his vision for a Catholic Ireland and the wider christian faith in general.
Recently Mr. Quinn has come out in force, backing Israel in the recent Abrahamic salvo in the Middle-East. Quinn has incessantly tweeted about the woes of the Jewish people and the State of Israel since the conflict re-erupted again, complaining about there being no solidarity with the Jews from a European context. Quinn’s stance on this seems to be that the Jews and the Christians of the world have a special bond and that the christian west should row in behind Israel when it is in its hour of need. The truth is I think Quinn values the Jewish apartheid state and by extension the Jewish people themselves as a higher class of people, even above us Christians. I say this because David Quinn has remained silent on the banning of the Ukrainian Orthadox Church by Zelensky’s regime in Ukraine.
Quinn, who has shown measured support for the Ukrainian cause, has chosen to ignore a European continental territory banning a Christian church. Ukraine is also in the middle of an EU membership bid meaning that soon, Ireland could be part of a Union with a country that has outright banned an entire branch of Christianity and Quinn has nothing to say about it?! Quinn’s foam-at-the mouth support for the Jewish peoples conquest of Palestine is unacceptable in this context.
There is a real problem in Ireland where our religious institutions have been captured by the backwards idea of Judeo-Christian values which at a glance appears to be a catchall phrase describing a one way relationship between Irelands Christians and International Jewry, also known as Zionism. This is the relationship that Zionists demand and foment as they weasle their way into positions of power across the west. That is the Zionist MO, irrationally afraid of any nationalism but their own. Tolerating Zionist sympathies from people in positions of power is as detrimental to a nations success as any plantation of Islam and in my opinion, the former is driving the latter. Let us not forget it was Zionist Lloyd George who threatened "terrible and immediate war" would be perpetrated against the Irish unless we partitioned our island. It was that same Lloyd George who facilitated the Balfour Declaration and the fulfilment of that promise, leading to the very conflict that Mr. Quinn now clutches his pearls for. In a historical and spiritual context, Quinn is fundamentally out of sync with his own countrymen.
Although still an admirer of an awful lot of what David Quinn does, I cannot stomach this man being a central figure in Catholic Ireland as our faith here is the only thing that should matter to an Irish Catholic. The Catholics who still practice, however awake they may be, are abstaining from their duty to this nation to defend it. Religious Orders in Ireland are profiting off the plantation of Ireland with no protest from the faithful. I have been at many protests and covered many more. The vast majority of the people who turn up are non practicing catholics like myself. A small portion of the resistance actually practice and the ones who have impressed me most are the ones who take the hardline stance. It is these young Catholics that have inspired me to return to the teachings of Catholicism and I have met many fantastic men through a local Mens Rosary Group but I have to tell it like it is, Decades of the Rosary are not going to cut it. We need the spirit of Father Murphy to inspire Irelands Catholics. They need to become militant again and consider themselves as owners and defenders of this land and not render ourselves perpetual good samaritans or Israelophiles. We have a nation of our own, a religion of our own and an island paradise with our name on it. To David it seems to be just a paddock for domesticated Christians.
Finally I want to address Quinn’s limp wristedness around the topic of free speech. Quinn has bandied around the term ‘anti-semetic’ during the the last few weeks since the conflict rekindled and has even called on Helen McEntee to do something about it. This is all in the middle of a National debate around an Orwellian Hate Speech Bill that is progressing through our Seanad and is threatening to become law, criminalising the criticism of jews and other minorities. The Jewish community of Ireland submitted the largest submission during the public consultation phase of the bill, calling for the Irish People to be prosecuted if they deny the holocaust or say something in criticism of them as a people or criticism of Israel. Irish Catholics have fought and died for the freedom to speak their minds in this country and Mr Quinn sees fit to champion Israel’s State sponsored Avoidant Personality Disorder in our laws. This goes in the face of who we are as a people, a people famous for our range of expression such our skilled use of not just, obscenity, critique and levity, but also our ability to offend and ridicule.
I am coming down hard here because there is a major vein of hypocrisy in conservative Ireland, with Quinn at the forefront, that is politically driven by a brand of fanaticism that compliments the Leftist anti-racism campaign against freedom of expression. Both of these camps want free speech gone or at the very least are prepared to ignore its demise as long as their lot is protected. They do not care about the Christians of their respective countries or their traditions as they are a means to an end. With respect to Blasphemy, which is what Hate Speech Laws are, Quinn is on record stating:
He is also on record calling out the left’s attack on free speech.
All of this is neutralised however when it comes to the Jews. You cannot criticise the Jews in David Quinns Ireland. This position flagrantly shows his Abrahamic dysphoria, and that he would be more at peace wearing a yarmulke than wearing a cross of our lord. Until he backs his own, above and beyond what he does for the Jews, he can no longer be considered Irelands top Christian commentator or anything close.
*I have scoured the internet and David Quinn’s twitter account. I have not found a single reference to this attack on religion in Ukraine. I am happy to update the record if someone cane provide evidence in the contrary.
